Communiqué from the Intergalactic Commission of the EZLN on the Intercontinental Encuentro

Adherents Propose a Huge Gathering in Venezuela for July

By Lieutenant Colonel Moisés
Intergalactic Comission of the EZLN

June 26, 2006

ZAPATISTA ARMY OF NATIONAL LIBERATION
MEXICO

TO: The Adherents of the Zezta Internazional
FROM: Intergalactic Commission of the EZLN

Receive our greetings, compañeros, as you read this information.

First, I want to remind you how we ourselves see what has happened in the preliminary meetings to the Intercontinental Encuentro (gathering) that we are preparing:

  1. The gatherings and meetings in preparation for the Intercontinental Encuentro proposed in the Sixth Declaration from the Lacandon Jungle, were called and organized in their entirety by the adherents to the Zezta Internazional.
  2. The EZLN has not called nor does it participate in the preparation and organization of these meetings; it only listens, receives and systemizes the proposals and conclusions of the meetings being held around the world, as preliminary meetings to the Intercontinental Encuentro. The goal is for the Intercontinental Encuentro to be the product of the real participation of the adherents around the world.
  3. The Intercontinental Encuentro still has no date or location. The date of its realization will arrive, but this will be decided among all the adherents.

Now, we want to clarify and report about the continental encuentro that some compañero adherents propose holding in Venezuela.

Compañeras and compañeros:

We think, we believe and we want all of the preparations made for the realization of gatherings and meetings to be truly consulted, discussed and analyzed among all the compañeros. This is so that no doubts arise as to how one thing or another is going. When all the information is part of the knowledge of everyone, from that will come a common decision for how or whether to hold such gatherings.

Compañeros, compañedras, we are now learning to truly pay attention to and respect each other. Let’s learn how to make proposals and ask for feedback on what we propose.

We must remember that those of us who are representatives are only representing. Around us are our peoples, and they are the ones who approve and command.

So, adherent compañeros of the Zezta Internazional, come to a common agreement on that continental encuentro that is proposed to be held in Venezuela, so that you can see if the preparation for its realization will continue. The decision is yours, compañeros.

We will be paying attention and waiting…

You can see that July is coming in Mexico. Atenco remains unresolved, and Oaxaca, too.

All right, compañeros, see you soon.

From the mountains of the Lacandon Jungle,
For the Intergalactic Comission of the EZLN

Lieutenant Colonel Moisés
