As reporters for the alternative media, adherents to the Sixth Declaration of the Lacandon Jungle and participants in the Other Campaign, the members of the Zapateando Alternative Communication Team hold an ethical duty to investigate and speak the truth, in addition to providing a space for the voices of those who are denied the right to speak their minds by commercial and official systems of communication.
Elections were held in México on July 2nd, as the Federal Electoral Institute (IFE) faced suspicions of collusion with the National Action Party candidate.
Since July 3rd, the Other Campaign has reported - in statements by the Sixth Commission of the Zapatista Army for National Liberation (EZLN), on the Sidewalk Politics radio program and through Radio Insurgente - that Vicente Fox and Luis Carlos Ugalde, of IFE, manipulated election results to favor the National Action Party candidate Felipe Calderón.
We are witnessing the indignation and the justified mobilization of a sector of the Mexican society, people who have been defrauded but refuse to accept the deceit and the imposition on their will.
As purveyors of alternative media, as Mexican citizens and as adherents to the Other Campaign we have informed the listening public of the fraud committed through Veracruz University Radio and XEYT Radio Teocelo, as well as through our online journal (http://zapateando.wordpress.com).
We will continue to inform the public of new developments regarding the electoral fraud as well as the acts of civil disobedience carried out by the population that justifiably refuses to accept it, in all of the spaces that we are working as independent, alternative media and adherents to the Sixth Declaration.
In this, our position is not in favor of any of the candidates or any political party, but rather in support of the people's right to choose our government as well as the form in which it is chosen it and the people's right to organize.
Regardless of who becomes the president of the Mexican Republic, we will continue to encourage the people to organize autonomously.
We must continue to organize ourselves from the bottom up and towards the left, in opposition to capitalism, neoliberal globalization and dirty politics. We are in favor of another way of doing politics and ultimately another way of doing journalism, a different kind of communication, a different kind of radio.
